I could not be more thrilled to introduce this tablecloth! Sometime back in the early ’90s, I bought a French tablecloth and gave it to my mom as a gift. She used it for probably 10 years, and then when she got a bigger table, I ended up with it. And I’m still using it. After thirty-odd years of washing, it is still amazing.

I have always known that if I was ever going to produce tablecloths, they would have to live up to that one. It is still performing SO much better than the many other tablecloths I have owned during the same time.

Eventually I had that cotton analyzed, and now we have duplicated both the weave and the cotton treatment of that original fabulous French prototype. The result is the most incredible, soft, light, drapey cotton which washes beautifully, you don’t have to worry about shrinkage, and there’s no need to iron.

We made these tablecloths a huge 74" wide, which means it has a terrific, generous hang (even on my extra wide table) and the deep mitered hems add a lovely extra-luxurious finish.

Wiltshire, in the south of England, was the inspiration for the English Arcadia of the great 16th century pastoral poets. And in the stunning Wilton House (home of Mary Sidney, sister of Sir Philip) there is a ruby-colored, flock wallpaper to die for. It is older than our country, and it is pure, concentrated, magnificence and pomp. I took the design and copied it, but changed the color to the cleanest, simplest, barefoot, summer blue which echoes the idyllic Arcadian skies of the poets, rather than the gorgeous Rococo formality of the original. The result is so fresh and lovely it can sit as easily on a picnic table as it does on an Easter table.

Machine wash, Line dry (ok full disclosure - that's what it says on the tag, probably for bureaucratic, legal reasons . . . we have tested chucking this in the dryer and it does just fine!)
