This new set of 100% cotton dishtowels is for the woman who loves the classics - you can’t really get more quintessential than blue and white! Like jeans and a white t-shirt, like antique willow ware dishes, like Delft tiles, like chinoiserie ginger jars, these towels are fresh and classic at the same time. (And I designed them to coordinate with the Paris Drying Stone which makes for a fabulous set and a full sink makeover!)

I’ve had a long standing grudge about the way dishtowels seem to be divided into two categories. The cute dishtowels often don’t work - they just push the water around on the dish which means you hang them up to look at but you don’t use them. And the towels that are super absorbent are often not cute at all and look kind of dismal and utilitarian hanging by your sink.

Then of course there’s the other laundry list of issues many towels succumb to. They shrink drastically in the wash. The design instantly fades into dowdiness. The edges roll up like a party horn, never to be seen again and making them impossible to fold.

So a few years ago, I set out to design a towel that defied all these problems. I realized that the effectiveness of the towel comes down to the weave, and the ideal weave for creating a cloth that is both soft and absorbent is what they use for cloth diapers: birdseye! And why not make them in designs pretty enough to hang cheerfully in your kitchen?

These towels are the best possible combination. They are absolute workhorses in your kitchen and they look adorable as they hang to dry - which means that really earn their place!

About the Design

Birthday Bunting in Blue
This is a brand new design! Now that I’m a grandma (!!) I realized that I needed a fabulous “happy birthday" banner to hang in my dining room for all of our many family birthdays. I designed it in a classic bunting style with triangle pennants in a blue and white that spelled out happy birthday. But once I had the design all set up for printing I realized how adorable it was as a pattern and this new dishtowel was born! This is the original blue and white and it looks adorable with the Nancy design and the Paris stone.

Nancy
You may recognize this pattern if you have any of my older towels! I sold it in a totally different colorway in my very first dishtowel set. The design was one I roughly copied from a 19th century, sepia-toned, French chintz and I’ve used it all over my house in varying colorways. For this towel I boosted the scale a little bit and went with this amazingly fresh palette of blue and white to coordinate with the Paris Drying Stone. And of course, it is named Nancy after my fabulous mother!

Care

Machine wash, Line dry (ok full disclosure - that's what it says on the tag, probably for bureaucratic, legal reasons . . . I always chuck mine in the dryer and they do just fine!)
